Join the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) for the Graduate Student Research Symposium on Friday, Nov. 12, from 1-4 p.m. Oral presentations will begin at 1 p.m. in the Connelly Center Cinema. Poster presentations will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the St. David’s Room.

Each year, graduate students in CLAS submit proposals for the Graduate Summer Research Fellowship. This event highlights the recipients of the 2021 fellowship. Student projects encompass a wide range of scholarship from various disciplines including theology, English, philosophy, psychology, biology, history, math, chemistry, counseling, environmental science, and software engineering.

Students will present their research with a poster or a Three Minute Thesis-style oral presentation. For a full list of presenters, check out the symposium program.

Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Ethics of Big Data, Oxford Internet Institute associated with a non-stipendiary Junior Research Fellowship at St Cross College University of Oxford Grade 7: £29,837 – £36,661 p.a.

We are a leading world centre for the multidisciplinary study of the Internet and society, looking for a full-time Researcher to work on a funded project, “The Ethics of Biomedical Big Data”, led by Professor Luciano Floridi.

The analysis of large datasets (Big Data) has become a major driver of innovation and success in biomedical research. However, the use of Biomedical Big Data raises serious ethical problems, which may threaten the huge opportunities it offers. This pilot project will formulate a blueprint of the ethical aspects, requirements and desiderata underpinning a European framework for the ethical use of Big Data in biomedical research.

Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant discipline, have a strong interest in information/computer ethics and proven experience in ethical and policy analysis and writing papers based on qualitative and/or quantitative research. The successful candidate will work with Prof. Floridi and a multidisciplinary team of researchers, and will be able to take a lead in project management, conceptual analysis, and the dissemination of results.

Based at our OII North office at 34 St Giles, Oxford, this position is available from 1 October 2014 for 1 year, with a possibility of extension beyond that date, depending on funding.

The Department of Philosophy at UFRGS invites applications for one (01) position as Postdoctoral fellow researcher in Philosophy, areas of specialization and concentration open, starting between February and March 2014, pending administrative approval.

This is a one-year appointment possibly renewable for a second year. Responsibilities include teaching one undergraduate or graduate course on a topic related to the researcher’s area of interest, leaving the other semester free to pursue research. That course, which lasts one semester, may be taught in English, Spanish, or Portuguese.

The current monthly value of postdoctoral scholarships amounts to 4.100 reais (Brazilian currency).

Qualifications
Applicants must have completed the requirements for the Ph.D. by January 01, 2014.

Those who are not Brazilians should prove home address. They cannot be employed by another institution during the period of their appointment at UFRGS, nor be retired.

The annual Mary Isabel Sibley Fellowship is awarded alternately in the fields of Greek and French. The award may be used for the study of Greek language, literature, history, or archaeology, or the study of French language or literature. The fellowship has a stipend of $20,000. The stipend will be paid in two installments, the first on July 1 of the award year and the second on the next January 1, unless the Fellowship Committee orders the stipend withheld because the fellow has disregarded the purpose of the award as stated by the donor.

Candidates must be unmarried women 25 to 35 years of age who have demonstrated their ability to carry on original research. They must hold a doctorate or have fulfilled all the requirements for a doctorate except the dissertation, and they must be planning to devote full-time work to research during the fellowship year. The award is not restricted to members of Phi Beta Kappa or to U.S. citizens.

Periodic progress reports from the fellow will be welcomed, and it is the hope of the Fellowship Committee that the results of the year of research will be printed in some form.  Sibley Fellowship Winners

The WGSS Program at the University of Houston invites applications for a
Postdoctoral Fellowship to begin in the Fall Semester 2012. This may become a

Applicants may be working in any discipline, on a topic concerning women and/or

Du Bois.  Fellows may come from any field and any perspective, and they may work on any topic, but their research should explore the major themes that characterize Du Bois’s scholarship and activism. This includes the history and meaning of racial, social, and economic justice; the problems of democracy and political inclusion; the role of capitalism in world affairs; and the global influence of African cultures.
