2 Year Post-Doc at the Philosophy Centre of the University of Lisbon

The project Contextualism, Relativism and Practical Conflicts and Disagreement invites applications for 1 full-time 2-year post-doctoral research position in philosophy. The position is based in the Philosophy Centre of the University of Lisbon (with the LanCog research Group), but the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the collaborative activities of the EUROCORES project Communication in Context (CCCOM), of which the Lisbon project is a part. The activities the candidate will contribute to include the workshops and conferences organized under the CCCOM project. The successful candidate will have a promising publication record in philosophy, primarily in the areas of the project in Lisbon, or in the areas covered by the CCCOM project, and a research project likely to yield high quality publications in international journals. Postdoc Frankfurt (1/2/12)

The Centre for Advanced Studies „Justitia Amplificata: Rethinking Justice – Applied and Global”, funded by the German Research Council (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) at the University of Frankfurt is seeking to appoint up to three post-doctoral fellows in political theory/political philosophy for the academic year 2012/2013.

Duration and Starting Date: 12 months, starting on either September 1st or October 1st 2012, according to the fellows’ convenience.

Candidates should have completed, or be close to the completion of, a doctorate in political theory/political philosophy, and should have proven potential to conduct and publish research at an international level. Candidates’ research should fall within the Centre’s areas of focus, namely global justice and applied theories of justice, as well as methodological questions on how to apply theories of justice to non-ideal circumstances.

Middlebury College Dissertation Fellowship (1/18/12)

Middlebury College invites applications for a dissertation fellowship for the academic year 2012-13. We are seeking graduate students with a clear commitment and ability to advance educational diversity, either through the nature of their scholarly work, or through their ability to model success in fields where their own backgrounds and experiences may be underrepresented.

Fellows will receive mentorship from faculty committed to excellence in scholarship and in undergraduate education. Fellows will be hosted by an appropriate department or program, and will be expected to teach one one-semester course. Fellows may apply to extend their affiliation with Middlebury to a second year. The annual stipend for the position is $30,000. Ph.D. candidates must have completed all doctoral work except the dissertation by the end of the current academic year.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, U.S. Legal Permanent Residents or otherwise authorized to work in the U.S. (e.g., non-U.S. citizen Ph.D. students would need to have employment authorization from their home institution that will allow them to receive a stipend from Middlebury College).

The Post-doctoral Fellowships at German Universities and Research
Institutes are provided by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the
Volkswagen Foundation in close cooperation with the Freiburg Institute
for Advanced Studies, the Berliner Zentrum Moderner Orient, the National
Museums in Berlin, the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin, the
Lichtenberg-Kolleg in Göttingen, the German National Library in
Frankfurt, the Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbüttel, the German
Archive of Literature in Marbach, and the Center of Excellence in
Konstanz. The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation will fund up to 12 American
post-docs in the humanities spending a year at academic institutions in
Germany.

The fellowships are granted for 9 – 12 months and aim at supporting
post-doctoral studies at the above-mentioned universities and institutes
as well as at universities or research institutes of the candidate’s
choice.

The respective target group are promising young scholars in their
post-doctoral research phase based at American institutions who want to
strengthen their research capacity in a specific field of the humanities
which can be expected to have a strong impact on their individual
research profile and expertise. Scholars who work in an
interdisciplinary field are especially encouraged to apply. The
applicants should have finished their Ph. D. between one and no more
than five years ago. Candidates who apply for a fellowship at an
institution not listed above will have to provide a letter by the
institution of their choice stating that it will support the candidate’s
application and host the person during the respective academy year.

The deadline is January 31, 2012.

Request for Research Proposals on Advanced German and European Studies

The Berlin Program for Advanced German and European Studies offers up to
one year of research support at the Freie Universität Berlin. It is open
to scholars in all social science and humanities disciplines, including
historians working on modern and contemporary German and European
history.

The program accepts applications from U.S. and Canadian nationals or
permanent residents. Applicants for a dissertation fellowship must be
full-time graduate students enrolled at a North American university who
have achieved ABD status by the time the proposed research stay in
Berlin begins. Also eligible are U.S. and Canadian Ph.D.s who have
received their doctorates within the past two calendar years.

The Berlin Program is based at, funded and administered by the Freie
Universität Berlin. The program’s publicity and selection process is
organized in cooperation with the German Studies Association (GSA).

The Berlin Program Fellowship stipends are EUR 1.100 per month for
fellows working on a dissertation project and EUR 1.400 per month for
fellows working on a postdoctoral research project.
