Another issue of Motor Stories has been released to Project Gutenberg through our collaboration with Distributed Proofreaders. In issue 22, Motor Matt’s Enemies; or, A Struggle for the Right, Motor Matt travels to Wisconsin to help a friend but discovers that some recently-acquired foes are on his trail. As is often the case in this series, the book’s main liability to the modern reader is the inclusion of broad racial stereotypes, which are especially evident in this volume due to a prominent African American character.
The volume also includes a filler story, “The Guardian of the Pass,” in which a youth traveling in Alaska encounters a prehistoric creature in a forgotten wilderness, which may be of particular interest to readers seeking traces of science fiction in the series.
The entire book may be read online or downloaded through Project Gutenberg.
