QUOTE OF THE DAY

Today is Earth Day! In 1970, the very first Earth Day took place in the United States and was celebrated by 20 million Americans, predominantly on college campuses via environmental education and protests. Today, more than 1 billion people participate in Earth Day internationally [source]. A common practice on Earth Day is to plant trees, perhaps because of Earth Day’s proximity to Arbor Day. If you’d like to see what public events are happening near you, check out the interactive map on EarthDay.org. Visit our stacks to learn more about Earth Day and Environmentalism.

“On Earth Day, we celebrate all the gifts the world and nature make available to us. We recognize our complete dependence on its bounty. And we acknowledge the need for good stewardship to preserve its fruits for future generations.”
– Sen. John Hoeven
