QUOTE OF THE DAY

Today is National Look Alike Day. Unlike some dubious “national holidays,” this holiday has a pretty interesting (if not slightly underwhelming) creation story. Picture this–TV news reporter Jack Etzel needs a fluff piece, pronto. He sees a guy walking down the street who looks like Humphrey Bogart, so he talks to him. And then he goes on to talk to other people about their supposed look alikes and bam, next day he submits the day to the Chase’s Calendar of Events so he can reuse his fluff concept every year (story via the National Day Calendar). Kind of genius, really. But even if you look like someone else, you’re still the only you there ever was and ever shall be! Feel like reading about doppelgängers today? Check ’em out.

“I have a personal philosophy in life: If somebody else can do something that I’m doing, they should do it. And what I want to do is find things that would represent a unique contribution to the world – the contribution that only I, and my portfolio of talents, can make happen. Those are my priorities in life.”
– Neil deGrasse Tyson
