This week, the Curious ‘Cat asks Villanova students, “April is national poetry month. Do you have a favorite poem? Could you recite a poem?”

Meghan Pawlak—“My favorite poem is definitely ‘O Captain! My Captain!’ [by Walt Whitman], but I could not recite it for you. My dad showed it to me, and I did projects on that in elementary school.”

Carina Fairfield—“I don’t know if I can recite a poem. I had to memorize ‘A Pizza the Size of the Sun’ [by Jack Prelutsky] in third grade.”

Matthew Gregory—“If you asked me when I was in middle school I could, but not off the top of my head. I did like Robert Frost when I read him back in sixth grade.”

Matthew D’Ariano— “‘Paradise Lost’: that’s a big poem. I can’t recite that one.”

Kristen Wells—“I just finished writing a paper on the poet John Donne. He does a lot of English literature and English poetry. The poem is called ‘Confined Love.’ I thought it was really interesting. It’s not necessarily my favorite, but I really like anything he writes.”

Kevon Turner—“‘Harlem (“What happens to a dream deferred?”)’ by Langston Hughes.”
