TBT: Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week

By Jenna Renaud

The above picture was featured in The Villanovan in 2001. The 36th Annual Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (HHAW) included food and clothing drives, a hunger run, a solidarity sleep-out, and a keynote address by Sr. Mary Scullion. This week marks Villanova’s 46th Annual HHAW.

HHAW was started in 1975 by Augustinian priest Rev. Ray Jackson, OSA, and a group of Villanova students operating on their three pillars of education, advocacy, and service. The week has since expanded to over 700 campuses and communities nationwide.

For this year’s HHAW Villanova has hosted a wide variety of events to educate people about the homeless population in the United States and do our part to serve. To learn more about the remaining events this week, visit the Villanova HHAW website: https://vuhungerweek.wixsite.com/mysite

MLK 2016

Thanks to Fiona Chambers, a student leader on the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Committee, library staff did their part to draw attention to the MLK Day of Service by wearing t-shirts provided by the committee.

The Library also served as one of the MLK Day of Service Coat Drive locations on campus after being contacted by Rebecca Lin, another student leader on the MLK Day of Service Committee.

The Library will be closed on Monday, Jan. 18, to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and to allow library staff and students to participate in MLK Day of Service events.
