Friday Outlook: Peeking Into the Clubhouse

“This is my current work area, complete with my three-year-old son in the background. Here he is watching “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” while nestled in his pillow fort.

“While my weekday view has changed for the time being, his playfulness always makes my day special.”
Roberta Pierce, Access and Collections Coordinator, Falvey Memorial Library

Friday Outlook: Letters of Hope

Image of a US postal drop box with a hand drawn letter from a child thanking postal workers for their service.

Ardmore, PA—The temporary closure of the nature trail at Haverford College altered my established walking route. Initially gloomy about finding another course, I discovered that my new path has been a constant source of joy. From artwork, like the one pictured above, to signs encouraging passersby to “Have a good day,” I am filled with hope each time I take a stroll around the neighborhood.

Friday Outlook: Annabelle Celebrates Spending Isolation Time with Family

Annabelle’s sister and dog, Tide.

As a graduating senior, quarantining hasn’t been ideal, but my friends, family, and I have been making the best out of the situation.

At home, every sunny day, my entire family has been playing basketball. There have been bake-offs and exciting poker nights as well. Each of these activities gets pretty competitive, especially since there is not much else to do. With all of our busy schedules, it is usually difficult to get me, my brothers and my sister (pictured above!), all at the same place at once.

Honestly, quarantining has actually been incredibly nice since I have been able to spend time with my entire family. My dog, Tide, is definitely benefiting the most. He has been getting constant attention from all of us and almost too many walks, if that is possible. Although this isn’t exactly how I wanted my senior year of college to end, my friends, family, and I have found ways to make quarantining fun and exciting!

Friday Outlook: A Unique Father/Daughter Workspace

desk with large cat painting

Brace yourselves—this is the desk where I’ve been working most of the time while home these past few weeks.

It’s my daughter Amelia’s desk, and it is nice to be next to her many pictures and mementos. (Also, a convenient candy stash.)  So when you take a look at library records like this, know that the cataloging took place in a place like this!

Friday Outlook: Working From Home

Downtown Phoenixville—this is the view just a short distance from where I am working from home.

This quiet scene is Bridge Street, a place normally filled with couples arm in arm and families pushing strollers. I am eager to see those same faces return to the theaters, restaurants, and stores that make “The ‘Ville” one of America’s most vibrant small towns.

Until then, along with Falvey’s librarians and staff, I am home working to support students and faculty taking classes from their homes around the world.
