Wilson Biographies Plus Illustrated

Wilson Biographies Plus Illustrated is a new electronic resource acquired by Falvey to replace the paper set of Current Biography Yearbook, formerly located in the reference stacks. Wilson Biographies Plus Illustrated contains the full text and all the images of the 23,000 biographies and obituaries that have been published in that set since 1940. Artists, politicians, business people, journalists, actors, writers, sports figures, scientists and other notables are included in this resource.

Did you know Stephen Colbert’s middle name is Tyrone or that he is one of eleven children? His 2700 word biography provides much more than just the basics: It describes his childhood, education and his work background, in addition to highlighting other aspects of his personal life.

The biographies are laced with personal quotes. For instance, Colbert originally “meant to be a serious actor with a beard who wore a lot of black and wanted to share his misery.”

Also, suggested reading sections point you to other recommended resources.

So, the next time you want to find out more about a public figure, remember to check out the online version of Current Biographies, listed under the Databases by Title page on the library’s web page. You can do this from the comfort of your home, dorm or office.
