Peek at the Week: May 14-18

Quote of the Week:

“Now it occurred to him that perhaps Terabithia was like a castle where you came to be knighted. After you stayed for a while and grew strong you had to move on. For hadn’t Leslie, even in Terabithia, tried to push back the walls of his mind and make him see beyond to the shining world—huge and terrible and beautiful and very fragile?”
-Katherine Peterson

This is a picture of me deeply sad to have to graduate from Villanova

Graduating seniors, here’s how you can use #FALVSFORLIFE!

#FALVSFORLIFE wristband

As tragic as it is inevitable, senior students must pass on to the world beyond Villanova’s campus—a world, perhaps, with fewer text books and probably even fewer stress-busting events. (Unless you become a graduate student like William Repetto or me, which can extend those simple joys for two more years!)

In attempt to reconcile some of the bitter-sweetness that comes with graduation, Falvey Memorial Library invites students to use #FalvsforLife. After applying for an annual “Courtesy Membership,” alumni regain borrowing privileges and access to subscription-based databases while onsite. While the Dugan Polk Family Reading Room and 24/7 spaces are only accessible to current students, the rest of the library is open to all in the Nova Nation during regular business hours. Stopping by the circulation desk for this membership is the first step to staying in touch with Falvey no matter where life takes you next (places we most likely have books on!).

If following #FalvsforLife means you’d like to receive updates on what we’re doing here—from beautiful renovations to unique events to strange/fantastic additions to our special collections—then consider contributing to Falvey when allocating to Villanova! Donors receive a bi-annual subscription to our newsletter, Mosaic, seeking to keep all of Falvey’s pals abreast of what they’ve missed since venturing onward. These donations are so meaningful because the library must constantly expand its print, electronic and audiovisual collections to meet, maintain and support the ever-changing learning and research activities for students, faculty and alumni. Mosaic is our way of showing gratitude and displaying new accomplishments, always cultivating the #FalvsforLife community.

Millicent Gaskell, library director, encourages senior students to keep Falvey in mind for both intellectual and charitable pursuits, saying, “At the library, we value access to information, ongoing professional development, and life-long learning, and want to enable that for all Villanova graduates.”

So, wherever the road may take you, you can still enjoy Falvey Library!  Pick up a free #FALVSFORLIFE wristband when you visit the library!
