This Day in History
Written by Brandon Boyer
On this day in 1976, Apple Computer was founded by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak in the garage of Jobs’ parents’ home at 2066 Crist Drive in Los Altos, California. Jobs and Wozniak built their first computer, the Apple I, with help from local neighborhood children, including Jobs’ sister Patti. Shortly after founding the company, Jobs and Wozniak would relocate their headquarters to nearby Cupertino. In 2013, the garage was named a historic site by the Los Altos Historical Commission.
