The Curious ‘Cat: “Brown Paper Packages Tied Up With String…”

Last week, the Curious ‘Cat asked Falvey Memorial Library staff what present they were most excited to give this year. Continuing to share the joy of the season, the ‘Cat asked Falvey staff, “What is one of the best holiday gifts you’ve received?” (Spoiler alert: They also shared their least favorite presents).

Mike Sgier, Access Services Specialist: “My favorite present was the Ewok Village. My girlfriend also gave me black socks which I really liked. My least favorite present…I got these weird flashlights last year and they didn’t work.”

Rob LeBlanc, First Year Experience/Humanities Librarian: “My favorite present was the X-Box 360 that my wife purchased for me because it’s not only the console itself, but all of the hours spent playing the games. The worst gift I got was an envelope filled with calling cards from my aunt [they never got used].

David Burke, Metadata & Resource Management Librarian: “The best present was a black cat named Sneakers; I got him when I was six. When I was a kid, the worst present you would receive was a sweater when all you really wanted was a toy.”

Marianne Watson, Acquisitions/Licensing Librarian: “The best present is babysitting money from the in-laws. The worst gift…someone signed me up for a Beer of the Month Club, but the beer I receive monthly is really bad.”

Margaret Duffy, Manager of Budget & Administrative Services: “The best present I ever received was a Precious Moments figurine with a father and son. Engraved in the figurine is the phrase, ‘These are big shoes to fill.’ The worst present I received was an ugly pair of pajamas from my color-blind husband.”

Joanne Quinn, Director of Communication & Marketing: The best present (which I asked Santa for this year), is a Silhouette Cameo. The worst present I ever received was when I asked for a treadmill, but our cat ended up needing surgery (which was the same cost as my treadmill).
