Peek at the Week: Oct. 31-Nov. 4
Quote of the Week:
“There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone”
-The Twilight Zone (1959-64)
Happy Halloween, fellow fiends! I hope today is just spooky & weird & wonderful, like any good Halloween should be (or as any given day in The Twilight Zone should be).

#MindfulnessMonday
Maybe after watching/reading about/seeing the commercial for/hearing someone talk about a scary movie, you have trouble sleeping. Maybe your brain starts to wonder what is under the bed/in the closet/behind the curtain/hidden in the reflections within your home. Maybe. If this is you, Halloween can be a time of sleeplessness,
(someone has to stay awake to watch for monsters, after all).
And, if this is you—and I’m not saying it is—here are some tips to help:
1.) Youtube the movie’s “behind-the-scenes” videos to humanize the monsters and to remind yourself all the actors made it through the entire filming process alive.
2.) Stream a comedy, read a romantic novel, call your mom and ask about her latest craft project. Become wholly immersed in something else until the adrenaline dissipates.
3.) Turn on the lights and actually look in the dark corners of the apartment, even if it’s scary. When there isn’t anything there, laugh at yourself and return to your normal, less skittish self.
Save the Date:
Monday, October 31st
-Well, today is Halloween (no, I won’t get tired of typing it).
Tuesday, November 1st
-All Saints Day
Friday, Saturday, Sunday, November 4th-6th
–CAT Films: Sing-Along Disney Marathon
(as a former Disney Cast Member, I’m already preparing for this event)

–The Tales of Edgar Allan Poe, Edgar Allan Poe
– An Epicure in the Terrible: A Centennial Anthology of Essays in Honor of H.P. Lovecraft, David E. Schultz and S. T. Joshi
–Coraline, Neil Gaimen, who writes,
“Coraline shivered. She preferred her other mother to have a location: if she were nowhere, then she could be anywhere. And, after all, it is always easier to be afraid of something you cannot see,”
(which goes for both our protagonist and the Halloween spirit itself).
#FalveyPeek at the Week provided by Hunter Vay Houtzer, a graduate assistant on the Communications and Marketing Team at the Falvey Memorial Library. She is working toward an MA in Communication at Villanova University, and on her gypsy costume for tonight! Send your thoughts/suggestions to Hunter at #falveypeek. See you next Monday for more!
