2016 Literary Festival & Ida B. Wells Lecture featuring Asali Solomon, PhD. The Africana Studies Program in conjunction with Villanova University’s 18th Annual Literary Festival presents the Ida B. Wells Lecture featuring author Asali Solomon, PhD. Dr. Solomon is the author of the novelDisgruntled.  She received a Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers’ Award for her stories collected in Get Down, her first book; the volume was also a finalist for the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award. In 2007 she was named one of the National Book Foundation’s “5 Under 35.” Dr. Solomon teaches English at Haverford College. She lives in Philadelphia with her husband and two sons. At the event, Dr. Solomon will read selections from her novel Disgruntled.

The Patricia H. Imbesi Saint Augustine Fellow Public Lecture: Today!
Gerald P. Boersma, the Patricia H. Imbesi Saint Augustine Fellow, will present the lecture “What Does God Look Like From the Back? Augustine and the Vision of God,” at 4:30 p.m., April 14, in SAC 300; ACS-approved. What does it mean to see God? This question animates much of Augustine’s thought, including his exegesis of the Old Testament theophanies, those seemingly primitive accounts in which God visibly appeared to the Patriarchs: dinning with Abraham, wrestling with Jacob and speaking to Moses face to face as to a friend. Please join the Office of Health Promotion and the Dean of Students Office at a specialized training on substance use and abuse trends on college campuses, 10-11:30 a.m., Friday, April 15, in Driscoll 134. Dr. Beth DeRicco, a nationally renowned expert and practitioner who now serves as the Higher Education Outreach Director for Caron Treatment Centers, will discuss the most commonly used and abused substances among college students, as well as the ways in which faculty and staff can promote a healthy campus.
