Outstanding Faculty Research Award Lecture featuring Robert Traver, PhD. Tuesday, April 19 at 1:00 p.m. in the Idea Accelerator, Falvey Memorial Library.

Robert G. Traver, PhD, PE, WRE, professor of engineering, will highlight the extensive research that led him to win the coveted Outstanding Faculty Research Award at a public lecture on Tuesday, April 19 at 1:00 p.m. in the Idea Accelerator, Falvey. Since 1981, Villanova University annually presents the Outstanding Faculty Research Award to a member of the faculty who demonstrates the highest standards of excellence in their research, scholarship, and contributions to their field.

Dr. Traver, a 20-year member of Villanova’s Water Resources and Environment Engineering Program, is a nationally recognized expert on stormwater management.  He founded the Villanova Urban Stormwater Partnership (VUSP) and as a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers External Review Panel (ERP), Dr. Traver played a significant role in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ investigation of the failure of the New Orleans Hurricane Protection System during Hurricane Katrina.

Dr. Traver’s talk is titled “Sustainable Stormwater at Villanova.” He will discuss the challenges of storm water sustainability in the built environment, and Villanova’s use of the campus for scholarship, teaching and as an agent for change.

Light refreshments will be served at this ACS approved event.

This event, co-sponsored by Falvey Memorial Library and the Office of Research and Graduate Programs, is free and open to the public.

The 19th Annual Walter Lucas Public Interest Fellowship Program Auction: 4/1                                                        The Walter Lucas Public Interest Fellowship Program (PIFP) will hold its annual auction on April 1 from 6-10 p.m. at the Law School. This year’s event features hundreds of donated items, including a day of sailing on the Chesapeake Bay, The Dr. Oz Show VIP tickets, a night at Lucky Strike Bowling, tickets to the Philadelphia Theatre Company and Opera Philadelphia, box suite seats to a Trenton Thunder baseball game and much more! College of Nursing 27th Annual Mass and Alumni Awards Ceremony: 4/2                                                                    April 2 the College of Nursing celebrates its 27th Annual Mass and Alumni Awards Ceremony at 6 p.m. in the St. Thomas of Villanova Church. All are invited to attend. The College’s Medallion will be bestowed upon Margaret Robins Garrett ’72 BSN, JD, senior counsel, practice group leader and senior director of Risk Management, Patient Care, Regulatory and Ethics for the Johns Hopkins Health System Legal Department and a former member of the College’s Board of Consultors; Christina Larson Kelly ’74 BSN, MSN, founder and president of Larson Financial Planning, Inc. and a former member of the College’s Board of Consultors; and Janet Nash ’08 MSN, PhD, vice president, Patient Care Services for Paoli Hospital, Main Line Health System. The recent Easter Rising commemoration event may have piqued your interest in Irish history. Lucky for you we have a new scholarly book on the topic. And although the publisher of The Princeton History of Modern Ireland promises “fresh perspectives on topics ranging from colonialism and nationalism to political violence, famine, emigration, and feminism,” the Irish Times review warns that it’s “not a book for the neophyte, the reader seeking an introduction to the history of modern Ireland. It addresses the informed, preferably disputatious, adult. Such a reader will find a great deal to savour in this fine collection.”
