Dig Deeper: Glenn Patterson, Charles A. Heimbold Chair of Irish Studies
Glenn Patterson, born in Belfast in 1961, is this year’s Charles A. Heimbold Chair of Irish Studies. Today (March 17) at 7:00 p.m., he will be appearing as part of the 18th Annual Villanova University Literary Festival in Driscoll Hall Auditorium. Patterson holds an M.A. in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia, where he had been a student of Malcolm Bradbury. Many of his novels are set in Belfast — if not by name then by implication — and he writes fiction as well as non-fiction and memoir. He also writes articles for The Guardian. The author of several novels including Burning Your Own, Number 5, The International, and most recently The Rest Just Follows, Patterson has won the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature and the Betty Trask Award. He is also the co-writer of the screenplay for Good Vibrations.
