During Women’s History Month, we recognize the achievements of women. This focus often underscores their underrepresentation in the STEM fields – i.e, science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This photo from the 1967 Belle Air of a female student working in a laboratory illustrates Villanova’s pioneering strides to correct that trend even ‘back in the day’.  The National Science Foundation (NSF) reported this week that women have earned about 50% of all science and engineering bachelor’s degrees since the late 1990s, yet still lag behind men in computing sciences and physics.

Belle Air yearbooks are available for viewing during regular library hours. Ask at the Circulation Desk.
