Feedback Friday: Have you seen any good movies lately?

It’s summertime and the living is easy (or easier than it was a few weeks ago). New movies are coming out all the time, many of which are based on books (Coraline, Angels & Demons, and Slumdog Millionaire). Have you seen any good movies lately? Did you read the book first? How do they compare?

I saw Angels and Demons and I enjoyed it, but I was disappointed by the omission of parts that I suppose were too controversial for some people, but it kind of ruined the story. I would recommend reading the book for sure.

I want to see Julie and Julia, but I’m afraid they’ll have chick-flickified it too much. The book was funny, honest and a good summer read.

Movies based on books are great, because even if I’ve read the book and someone else is too lazy to read it we can still discuss the story. I’m more likely to head to the theatre if a book-based film is showing, because quite frankly, I am really sick of the slop that keeps coming out. how many times will Meg Ryan play the same role?

I saw Star Trek & Terminator Salvation.

Both of which are summer-entertainment movies and not intellectual or insightful.

Star Trek had a very concise feel to it and was well made, but it lacked the twists and turns which makes a movie register in your head..

Terminator Salvation was really good, this movie is like a filler to the next terminator movie (like Matrix Reloaded was), but every minute of it consisted of amazing action stunts and kept you wondering what’s going to happen in the next scene.
