Marketing the Library: Swarthmore Librarians Visit Falvey to Share Ideas

A group of Swarthmore College librarians, members of the college’s marketing team, visited Falvey Memorial Library on January 13. When Pamela Harris, outreach and instruction librarian at Swarthmore College, met Jutta Seibert, Falvey’s coordinator for academic integration, at a meeting of the Association of College and Research Libraries, Delaware Valley Chapter, she asked if a group of Swarthmore librarians could visit to learn about Falvey’s marketing and outreach activities, especially the “VUCat search box, game night, and nifty ways to advertise online reference materials.”

Library Director Joe Lucia welcomed the group. Jutta introduced Chris Barr, interface and design specialist and co-founder of Reference Radio; Linda Hauck, business librarian; Barbara Quintiliano, instructional services librarian; Jacqueline Mirabile, coordinator of Research Support and a member of the Publications/Communication team; Darren Poley, programming and outreach librarian; and Joanne Quinn, a member of the Access and User assistance team who handles interlibrary loans, but also spends considerable time working on library graphics, Falvey’s “artist in residence.”

Jutta gave the visitors a tour of the first floor and the new Griffin Room where Barbara Quintiliano, Linda Hauck and Chris Barr gave presentations. Throughout the morning the Swarthmore librarians asked questions about Falvey’s teams and activities.

The members of Swarthmore’s marketing team who attended, in addition to Pamela Harris, were Alison Masterpasqua, Bronwen Densmore, Annette Newman, Mary Marissen, Susan Dreher and Terry Heinrichs, an intern.
