Villanova University and Falvey Memorial Library are closed due to inclement weather on February 13, 2014. The main 24-hour lounge and Old Falvey 24-hour spaces should be available as long as snow doesn’t block the doors and as long as power outages don’t occur.
With the welcome announcement that power had been restored to main campus, we will offer library hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, 2/7/14. Limited services will be available. We will also maintain our regular weekend hours of Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Sunday, 12 p.m. (noon) to 12 a.m. (midnight).
Until the proxy server can be restarted, you can access library resources through the University gateway.
We hope everyone is safe, warm and well fed.

When opening the library this morning, we discovered a major lighting outage on the first floor. Facilities worked on the problem and restored the lights.
Thank you for your patience.
After several days of being closed for cleaning & maintenance, we are reopening the Falvey West stacks to library patrons. Patrons with any concerns about the condition of library materials or the space in general are encouraged to notify library staff. (Below is the message we originally posted on August 20.)
“Due to the need for critical maintenance in the Falvey West stacks and the presence of heavy equipment, we cannot permit patron access to the stack area for the next 7-10 days. Staff at the front desk will do whatever they can to fulfill your need for specified titles. Staff can place holds on titles for library patrons or mark titles missing so that E-Z Borrow requests can be placed. Items requested through E-Z Borrow are often delivered within 3-5 days.
We greatly appreciate your patience during this brief service interruption. Please call the service desk at 610-519-4270 if you have any questions.”
There appears to be a network outage in the Philadelphia area on one of the routers utilized by the University’s internet service provider (ISP). UNIT is working with them to resolve the routing problem.
In the meantime, using the University’s Virtual Private Network (VPN) appears to be an acceptable short term work around for faculty and staff. Here are instructions on how to install/use it.
Students who live outside of the Philadelphia area may contact us directly for research assistance at either 610-519-4270 or at firstname.lastname@example.org. Our online chat may also be available from the homepage. Look for the green “Ask a Librarian: Live Chat” button in the lower right hand corner of the screen.
We apologize for any inconvenience this network outage may cause our users and colleagues.
