The 8:30 | Things to Know Before You Go (1/14)

EIGHT-THIRTY-GRAPHIC2

Here’s your daily dose of library-oriented speed-reads to start your day!

THIS IS NEW!
Welcome to The 8:30 – a daily blog post that will provide you with a quick rundown of all that day’s events in the Library and other interesting news and links to check out before you start your busy schedule. We’re here, as well, to make the thought of an ‘8:30’ something to look forward to in the morning! Anyone who’s ever had an 8:30 class will probably know what we’re talking about! 😉

DID YOU KNOW…

Did you know? The E-ZBorrow service allows you to borrow books from other academic libraries in the tri-State area and has an average turnaround of 4-5 days. The loan period is six weeks with the option of one six-week renewal.

SPOTIFY HITS 60M USERS

Did you hear the announcement from Spotify that it has reached 60 million users? Do you use it? What songs would you place on a playlist for the beginning of a new semester? Send your suggestions to socialmedia@villanova.edu and we’ll pull them together into a playlist!

TODAY’S SHAMELESS SOCIAL MEDIA PLUG 🙂

Do you follow the library on YouTube? We have a great array of Falvey-produced videos old and new that are instructional and entertaining. Newcomers to the channel are archival copies of Gerald Dierkes’ Highlighter videos, which debuted last semester, featuring helpful insider tips on getting the most out of the library’s resources. View and rewind to your heart’s content!

LIBRARIES TO CELEBRATE MLK DAY

To honor Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy, The New York Public Library is participating in a citywide initiative to allow 27,000 7th, 8th, and 9th graders to see the film Selma for free. A team of expert NYPL librarians have also put together a list of recommended books about Dr. King, Jr., and the Civil Rights movement to help continue the conversation beyond the film.

HAVE A GREAT DAY!

If you have ideas for inclusion in The 8:30 or to Library News in general, you’re invited to send them to joanne.quinn@villanova.edu.
