Alexandra (Alex) Edwards, a graduate student in the English department and a graduate assistant to Falvey Memorial Library’s Outreach and Communication teams, presented a paper, “Succession of Language: Women Talking to Women in Shakespeare’s History Plays,” at Villanova University’s 22nd Annual Elizabeth Cady Stanton Student Research Conference.
Her panel, moderated by Evan Radcliffe, Ph.D., also featured two undergraduate presentations, a first-year student paper on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and another on Marsha Norman’s “‘Night Mother.”
After her presentation, Alex answered questions related to her paper, covering topics such as motherhood and female strategies of resistance.
At the awards dinner which followed the conference session, John A. Doody, Ph.D., Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, presented Alex with the award for the best graduate student paper.
Alex wrote “Succession of Language” for Dr. Alice Dailey’s “Shakespeare’s History Plays” fall 2010 course.
