Content Roundup – Last Week – June 2013
This week brings us a real treasure: the two volume scrapbook of Frank Steed. Steed was a WWI soldier who spent the war, not at the front lines, but in Paris and the photos, theater programs, and travel ephemera that he collected document a different war experience than is commonly imagined – one in which going to war was not uniformly a hardship but an opportunity for travel and romance. As well, we continue our efforts to digitize the Graduate theses and bring the complete year of 1948 to your attention. If you would like to listen, instead of read, continue on to the latest episode of Mittie’s Storytime, which features the first meeting between two dangerous women: scheming widow Mrs. Vance and the gold-hungry Haidee Leveret! Four issues of the rare Belfast newspaper Shan Van Vocht will let you read about the latest (1897) happenings. And for the children, we present 15 more issues of the Philadelphia published story paper Golden Days : for Boys and Girls . Stay cool in the heat, enjoy some fresh seafood, and read onward!
