Did you know the library lounge is open 24 hours a day? Your Wildcard gives you access to the lounge after the main library closes. Security cameras are linked directly to Public Safety, which makes it a safe place to study late. What is your favorite time to study?

Morning if ‘m Awake (rare)…
else (usually) thru the night… As that is the only time I am not distracted… (even the news sites have nothing new then)..
usually get the best work done between 10 pm and 2 am, so its frustrating to be sent outside and then have to find a new table in a crowded, noisy, loud room. It would be really nice if the library was open at least another couple hours on weeknights.
I would definitely agree with extended hours for the actually library, its hard to get work done in the noisy and crowded holy grounds post midnight. Most schools have a 24 hour library and I think we should follow suit. At least extended it to 2 or 3 am on a regular basis. The limited library hours is legitimately one of my biggest pet peeves about Villanova.
The library can’t do anything about it since they don’t set their budget. Ask Jay Wright to shave off a couple of K from his salary — not like he’ll have to shop for his suits at Goodwill.
I study in the morning before a class so that it is all fresh in mind. If I study at night it just goes out of my head. I don’t study in the library. I study on the train.
Re: 24 hour library. Not everyone has nights and days reversed. Overnight staffing would be a problem.

Formula for a 24 hour library without spending too much money: assign two public safety officers to the library. Allow no checking-out of books from midnight till 8am. One public safety officer will sit at the entrance, and the other walks rounds on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors. Hiring two more public safety officers does not seem extreme.
In response to your comments, the library is hoping to offer late night study hours (until 2:00 a.m. or 3:00 a.m.) on selected evenings throughout the semester, possibly as soon as September of this year. A 24-hour library requires a little more planning, including changes to the facility itself, a budget for public safety officers, and availability of student staff.

In response to your feedback, the library has relaxed the lounge policy. Patrons are no longer required to pack up their belongings and exit the lounge at the official closing time. However, all library materials must be returned to the front desk. Staff will ask to see Wildcards so that only authorized Villanova students, staff, and faculty are in the lounge after closing. We hope this new policy enhances your experience in Falvey Library.
I really appreciated the policy change for the 24-hour study lounge. Checking Wildcards rather than having students leave the library only to wait to get back in makes so much more sense. I do agree, though, that Villanova should extend library hours to at least 2:00 am on an all-year basis (as oppposed to extending hours only at midterms and finals). Falvey Library is a college library, and its schedule should accomodate the schedules of college students, which often include late nights of work and study.
