I actually love the winter but always look forward to longer warmer days as we draw closer to March. Cooking comfort foods on the weekends, especially cold ones, & hanging out with my family watching movies with the fireplace going — those things make winter a good time.
I listen to quiet hibernation music: M. Ward, Iron & Wine, Nick Drake, Cat Stevens, etc.
It is a wonder that I don’t sink into a massive depression.
Movies I’ve watched a hundred times and hot chocolate.
Always music. I like to listen to My American Heart and Talking Heads during the winter and The Pogues and Jacob’s Ladder at the end of winter, because they make it feel a little more like spring.
I’m reading Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer right now. Even though I am sick of winter weather I’m reading about the 1996 Everest disaster. Lovely.
Also frijoles negros con arroz. Tasty.
Lots of punk music, layers of clothes and lots of activity!
A good mystery book, a purring cat on my lap, and a cup of tea or glass of wine. Or a pizza night out with the girls.
Villanova Basketball and Top Chef! 🙂
cooking — I find it relaxing and it makes me feel good when I’m preparing something healthful for myself and my family.
writing something — a poem, a letter to a penpal
reading –> preferably one of those old-fashioned things with a front and back cover and elements called pages that you turn using the fine motor skills of the fingers
Staying inside…I didn’t grow up with the cold, and it was fun freshman year. But it seriously depresses me.
